LOSS OF GESTURE

2009

This work consists of a sculptural installation made by a slide projector. The projector is on a 360 degree rotating base which projects a biking character moving around the room.

The loss of gesture is a concept developed by philosopher Giorgio Agamben, showing the manner in which gestures are stolen from humans with the appearance of cinematography and then later adapted by us through it. In my case I have stolen a gesture from a friend with a series of photographs that were later decoded and animated through the scanimotion effect.
